Jewellery Care
At MakingWaves4u we take care to make sure that your jewellery is always of the highest quality whether the setting and chain are made of sterling silver or are silver plated. With a little care the items that you purchase from MakingWaves4u can retain their shine and sparkle. Sterling Silver and Silvery Plated jewellery With time any sterling silver jewellery piece that is exposed to air will tarnish. Sterling silver is a mixture of metals with at least 92.5 of the piece being silver and 7.5% being other metals. It is usually that other 7.5% that oxidises resulting in tarnishing. Silver plated jewellery This is jewellery that is made by coating a base metal such as brass or copper with a very fine layer of silver. At MakingWaves4u we ensure that all of our silver plated items confirm to EU and UK regulations relating to the content of the settings and the chains. Caring for your Purchase To make sure that your jewellery remains in pristine condition we recommend: •Removal before sleeping, swimming or bathing in sea water. •Avoid direct contact with harsh chemicals or perfume, nail polish remover, creams and hairspray. •Cleaning your jewellery regularly with the soft cloth that is supplied with your piece, being gentle when polishing by wiping rather than scrubbing. •Storing your jewellery separately in our gift box and not with other pieces of jewellery Fused Glass The fused glass cabochons used in our jewellery will retain their sparkle and colour (unlike items made with resin) but a quick wipe with a very slightly damp cloth will remove any grime which it may collect. However, it is important that you avoid immersion of your jewellery in water or other liquids as that may cause the adhesive holding the cabochon onto the setting to become loose.
